Interesting Marketing

December 29th, 2008

I was doing some research on candy packaging and came across this old candy bar from the 70s - the Marathon bar. Probably the most interesting marketing campaign I’ve ever heard of. I tried feverishly to find a video somewhere of the commercial but to no avail. Here’s a description for Cristian Science Monitor:

“The Marathon Bar was a full eight inches of braided chocolate and caramel. Introduced in 1973, the bar stood out, thanks to its bright-red package and gargantuan length. Inch markings printed on the wrapper showed that it was as long as it claimed. (The length was the result of its braided shape; it didn’t weigh more than standard candy bars.) When sales didn’t meet expectations, Mars Inc., took it off the shelves in 1981.”

I wish they had stuff like this now. Insane!

5 Things - New Category

December 11th, 2008

I was watching a PBS program last night where Dr. Daniel Amen was talking about Brain Health. In his presentation, he discusses the many dos and don’ts to maintaining a healthy brain. Now, this is somewhat of a concern for me since my grandmother, who recently passed, had suffered from Alzheimer’s for them majority of my life. She didn’t know who I was for the last 5 years of her life. Its an awful thing to witness for a loved one, and I would imagine a really scary thing to go through.

One of the things that Amen mentioned in his program was to show gratitude - that thinking positive thoughts will actually improve your brain function.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m grateful every day for the all the things I have in my life, but he mentioned to actually write out 5 things so I can look at them and reflect. So, what better place to do this than on this blog.

So here it is, 5 awesome things for yesterday (since its still early).

1. deedeekid.com - new inspiration I found. This kid has amazing talent
2. juicy web buttons - i think i have an addiction. They’re so fun to make.
3. martial arts class - last night was intense. I felt like puking at least twice. Great workout!
4. my dogs  - great pals to come home to every night (you’ll probably see this on my list a lot, as well as my husband)
5. My slippers - they’re so comfortable (especially after an intense workout)

Interview at Pop Culture Tees

November 13th, 2008

I have an interview up at Pop Culture Tees website for my work with Kickin Ass Tees. Be sure to check that out!

I signed up for Jeet Kun Do classes last week (you know, the Bruce Lee stuff). Its a super good workout and plus I’m learning some good survival skills. I’m about a week into it and my body is sore in places I didn’t know I had. This should definitely keep me in shape for skateboarding next season.

California in  2 weeks! I can’t wait.
